John Bazley started as our EI&C Team Manager in July 2019 and has an extensive background in this field. He has recruited experienced engineers for the MEL team and they have provided a strong launch to our EI&C services via the delivery of MCC upgrade design work to a major MEL customer and other projects for our clients.
In 2019 we partnered with ROMEngineering – specialist consultants to the chemical process industries. This new partnership has continued to successfully deliver projects to MEL clients in NZ and Australia during 2020.
MEL continues our successful 5-year partnership with Tiaki Engineering Consultants from Tauranga and with the support of these Civil Engineering professionals we continue to offer a complete multi-disciplinary service.
In 2018 MEL established an office based in Richmond, Nelson and together with our resource in Christchurch, we have now been delivering services and developing valued relationships with local clients. The result of that work has seen MEL secure major jobs with Christchurch City Council and Waimea Water. The MEL South Island group of 4 staff interfaces with MEL Kawerau to share resources and workload. 2021 will be about maintaining the quality service the SI team has been delivering, increasing our client base and delivering MEL’s full scope of services.
The Kawerau based team of 35 staff have provided significant services to the pulp and paper, food, energy and chemical industries in the North Island using our multi-disciplinary engineering services. Since Feb this year MEL has had a senior mechanical engineer -Mark Simpson – located in Hamilton and we are working to build a greater customer base in the Waikato.
The Design Team has been busy providing quality design, draughting, CFD & FEA analysis, design verification and stress analysis solutions for our customers.
COVID-19 severely impacted demand for the team. Fortunately, things have recovered and they are once again busy with some significant major upgrades for clients involving piping, tankage and compliance work.
MEL secured 2 senior Project Managers late this year – Greg Long (returning to MEL) and Ed Trott who both bring significant experience and skills to the team.
The senior planner we add late last year has provided major benefits to our client and will be available in the New Year.
H&S services have again been in demand with our senior and well qualified resources successfully providing guarding audits, design, installation and H&S project management/supervision.
MEL’s ASEL fan engineering division has continued to deliver customised solutions to customers, building on many years of successful work. We have capability in both the North and South Island.
We hope you all have a great break and look forward to working with you in 2021.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the team at MEL
