MEL – now a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy. 2019 has seen MEL continue to build our engineering resources.

Electrical, Instrumentation & Control
John Bazley started as our EI&C Team Manager in July. John has an extensive background in this field and has recruited experienced engineers to join the MEL EI&C team. This, combined with our McMahon Tauranga partnership, means MEL has flexible and skilled EI&C professionals available.

Process Engineering
We have partnered with ROMEngineering – specialist consultants to the chemical process industries. This new partnership has already successfully delivered two specialist projects to our Pulp and Paper clients this year.

Civil and Structural
MEL continues our successful 4-year partnership with Tiaki Engineering Consultants from Tauranga and with the support of these Civil Engineering professionals we continue to offer a complete civil and structural service.

Head Office – Kawerau
The Kawerau based team of 35 staff have provided significant services to the pulp and paper, sawmilling, food and chemical industries in the North Island. We have an increasing client base and are focusing on extending our multidisciplinary engineering services.

South Island Office – Nelson
In 2018 MEL established an office based in Richmond, Nelson and together with our resource in Christchurch, we have now been delivering services and developing valued relationships with local clients. The start-up has been mainly focused on mechanical services however the office offers the full multidisciplinary services MEL provides. The MEL South Island group now has 4 staff and interfaces with MEL Kawerau to share resources and workload. 2020 will be about maintaining the quality service the SI team has been delivering and continuing to increase our client base.

Engineering Design
The Design Team has added Bentley Autopipe and Microstran to its suite of software and design capability.

Construction and Projects
Project Management of Capital & Major Maintenance projects, annual shut participation and maintenance support has kept the Construction and Projects team busy this year. We secured a senior planner late this year and are looking to recruit further experienced planners to meet our clients’ requirements.

Health & Safety
H&S services remained in demand with our senior and well qualified resources successfully providing guarding audits, design, installation and H&S project management / supervision.

Fans & System Design
MEL’s ASEL fan engineering division has continued to deliver customised solutions, building on many years of successful work.

We hope you all have a great break and look forward to working with you in 2020. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the team at MEL.
